The art of the Noh Drama is considered the oldest of Japanese performing arts, dating back as far as the 7th century. The Noh mask was the major element of this dramatic art form. Their unique Japanese character and techniques of expression give them a spiritual depth that makes them far superior to any other type of mask in the world. Muneharu Nagasawa of Kyoto who's father began replicating the original designs 60 years ago is now offering replicas of limited editions of the following masks. Hand carved out of the ever durable, precious Japanese cypress (hinoki) and using gofun coloring made from crushed seashells, each mask takes upwards of 1 month to make! This collection is only available through IJC.
